Sometimes exercise and a proper diet aren’t enough to overcome certain body contours caused by fat deposits which may be the result of genetics, shared family characteristics. When healthy eating, calorie watching and specialized exercises fail to eliminate localized fat, liposuction may help restore the shape you’re trying to achieve.

About the Procedure
Liposuction is the surgical removal of excess fatty tissue in localized spots or regions of the body. While it is often performed as a separate procedure, liposuction is often done along with other plastic surgery, such as breast or face lifts, or tummy tucks.

Localized fat deposits may be removed from areas of the breast and chest, cheek, chin, neck, arms, legs, abdomen, waist, hips, and buttocks.

Surgical techniques may include traditional suctioning; a super-wet procedure where saline and adrenaline is injected to aid removal of fatty tissue; or using ultrasound to help liquefy tissue for removal.

Considerations
Liposuction is not:
• A treatment for cellulite or obesity.
• A replacement for proper exercise and diet
• Recommended for those who are 30 percent above their ideal body weight

Ideal candidates for liposuction are individuals who are healthy, non-smokers, who have not undergone surgery at the locations in question and have a positive outlook. People with high blood pressure, diabetes should disclose and discuss those conditions and any other pre-existing medical conditions with the surgeon.
