Post-trauma Repairs |
|
|
Trauma includes burns, as well as injuries from vehicle accidents, explosions, industrial accidents and crimes. The damage they cause may result in serious scarring unless repaired properly at the time of treatment. For that reason the plastic surgeon is often part of a team of physicians involved in trauma cases. Aside from initial surgery, subsequent procedures may be needed to reform body parts, eliminate scars or make cosmetic repairs. Extensive and successive surgeries may be required in burn cases, first to replace damaged tissue and then to improve appearance. Each trauma injury is different and may require different techniques. The surgeon will assess the situation, consult with your physician on your overall condition and health, and then develop a surgical plan. In all but emergency repairs, you will be fully informed and involved in the plan and encouraged to ask questions. |
